Energy efficiency is an important area in building management. The facility manager (FM) of the building should concern whether the building is energy efficient or not. In a typical building, there is more energy waste unless the energy efficiency rate is considered or using Building Management System (BMS).
What is BEMS?
BEMS is a computerised system that is used to monitor and control energy-related plants and equipment including lighting, HVAC (Heat, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), and power supply.
Difference Between BMS and BEMS
BEMS is more like BMS, however, it provides information focusing on energy usage and demand while BMS monitors and controls all systems centrally.
Importance of BEMS
BEMS can use for FM to act and save energy. If there is a demand, BEMs is received an external signal and sends control instructions to plants and equipment to respond to it. For example, that BEMS directly can dim lights, control temperature set point and shifting utility supply to the battery storage system for controlling the load of the building. Further, the system enables monitoring, aggregating, and processing data to send logic-controlled responses and enhance the building performance through it.
Currently, BEMS is at the preliminary level, however, it can be developed with IoT applications for future practice. Here, this integration will allow FM to control operations proactively. IoT based BEMS is enabled not only to monitor and measuring but also helps to make smart decisions that affected the bottom line.
BEMS is another application as BMS is used in building. BEMS enables to save energy while monitoring and measuring data of the building environment. Moreover, this will help FM to reduce the energy usage cost and enhance the energy efficiency of the building.
