Biometric Technology as An Efficient Soldier for The Access Controlling
2021-09-22 by IFMSL
People in the current world spread their working space to huge areas with different places. Day by day, people are entering many places such as school, university, workplace. Then, it is a considerable problem for the Facility Manager (FM) to manage the public safety and security and authorize access for the permitted premises. Although the CCTV technology stays in operation, FM cannot engage with every minute shifting between the office and the place where a situation happened.
What is Biometric Technology?
Biometric technology is a modern technology that capturing the special and unique parts of the human body such as fingerprint, hand geometry, iris or retinal, and shape of the face, then comparing with the pre-stored memory of it, and allow or reject the authority to enter the secured space.
How does this join with the situation?
Due to the disadvantage of CCTV systems and other safety and security devices as mentioned above, there is a need to maximize the technology beyond the current situation. Biometric technology comes with this kind of moment. The system gathers real-time biometrical data and compares it with the data in its database through biometric devices. Because of the data collected in this way, it is hard to output a fault result and make the system disqualified in the safety and security field.
How to choose?
In the current market, biometric devices are available considering the feature that they detect as input. Various devices have various efficiency levels and various costs to buy and install. It depends on what the organization needs to protect, whether the device is for convenience or security, the population that the device used to detect or face, the units they want to cover the premises, and the risk level regarding the protected body. If the protected body has less value, the organization can use a fingerprint or hand-geometry recognition device. Or, if the protecting body is more valuable, the organization can decide to install a face recognition or iris or retinal recognition device that is more expensive than other devices.
There is more workload under the scope of the FM in safety and security. FM should ensure to provide more effective and efficient output regarding non-core business. Under that, the access control is a highlight facility. Biometric technology gives a better opportunity to FM in their field to identify and allow the people to access the secured areas in the organization.
