Information should be viewed as a source of power and managed as a valuable resource with immediate implications for business and operational efficiency. Computer-based techniques are becoming more widely available and affordable as the volume and complexity of information grow and they are being rapidly accepted for this purpose. Hence facilities management functions can be considerably improved in their efficacy in an organization by automating/computerized them and as a result, the efficiency of facilities management teams depends on adopting, developing, and maintaining an acceptable degree of knowledge and expertise in information management and technology. Facilities management involves more than keeping track of facility inventories and maintenance schedules on a day-to-day basis. They involve to strategic, tactical, and operational levels of the organization and these decision-making procedures are strategic, complicated, and address a wide range of topics. Hence it needs a multi-criteria analysis method. Hence there is numerous and diverse computer-aided facilities management (CAFM) systems available to assist FM processes and operations and making decisions for organizations is the essence of FM, and this should be the foundation for the development of facility information management system (FIMS) and CAFM. CAFM is described as the use of automated/computerized ‘tools' and procedures to improve facility management productivity and efficiency and it coming under FIMS. The setting up of strategies and frameworks, as well as the technologies employed, for managing information at the strategic and tactical levels is reflected in FIMS. A facility information management system (FIMS) can be used to manage physical resources, support services, human resources,s, and business information. However, a computer-aided facilities management (CAFM) approach to an organization's strategic needs defines the criteria for selecting relevant technologies and integrating them with facilities information management systems (FIMS) to offer management information for strategic decision-making.
